Provided Jon Jones gets licensed, he’ll fight Anthony Smith at UFC 235

Provided Jon Jones can get licensed in Las Vegas, he’s set to face off with Anthony Smith at UFC 235; At least, that’s the word from Dana White. White spoke to TMZ and revealed their plans.

“Later this month, Jon Jones will file an application for licensure with the NSAC in order to compete at UFC 235 in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 2nd.

Provided that license is granted, Jones will be defending his Light Heavyweight title against Anthony Smith in a 5 round main event at the T-Mobile Arena.”

So, just like that Jon Jones is back in the saddle. The new UFC light heavyweight champion will take on top contender, Anthony Smith, at UFC 235. Fans are having a hard time with this fight already because Smith has only had a few fights in the light heavyweight division. However, he has smashed his way through Volkan Oezdemir, Shogun Rua, and Rashad Evans.

Honestly, the UFC light heavyweight division is and always has been one of the thinnest divisions that they have. It is tough to find a top contender outside of the top six or seven fighters at 205 lbs. Finding guys who are on more than a 2 to 3 fight win streak is damn near impossible.

Critics thus far have only been given Smith a “puncher’s chance” and say that the smart money is on Jones. This is MMA though and anything can happen.
