While we did announce the return of Cain Velasquez and his new 4-fight contract the other day, the UFC made it official today. Once they post via social media, it’s set in stone. Cain Velasquez will be in the headliner fight against Francis Ngannou on the ESPN UFC Phoenix card. It’s set to take place on February 17.
It’s been over 2 years since fans have seen one of the greatest heavyweights ever, compete. While Cain has been injury prone, he’s looking to get past all of that now after inking a nice new contract.
It’s safe to say that Cain is also coming back for his belt. Now that Daniel Cormier is on his way out, Cain can once again chase the top prize. The two best friends vowed to never fight each other and one could argue that DC initially dropped to light heavyweight to steer clear of any conflicting issues with his AKA brother at heavyweight.
Now, Cain will face Francis Ngannou in which can possibly be considered a #1 contender fight for the soon-to-be vacant heavyweight title.
