Volkan Oezdemir’s loss to DC was the least of his problems at UFC 220

In retrospect, a loss to Daniel Cormier at UFC 220 was the least of Volkan Oezdemir’s problems. As it turns out, his night was much MUCH worse than we thought.

Oezdemir went on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani and detailed all of the extracurriculars that went awry at UFC 220.

“… but then, I got caught once in my eye. (Cormier) broke my orbital and then after that, I think the fight starts going in his favor. He started catching up to his rhythm.”

We all know what happened next. DC won the fight by TKO in the second round and Volkan’s title hopes were dashed. However, adding insult to injury, when Volkan got home, he broke out with a staph infection on three parts of his body. He claims that it was from rolling on dirty mats before his fight with DC.

I’m not sure if Reebok makes shirts that say, “I fought DC to a loss, broke my orbital, and picked up a staph infection; AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT.”

I think that would be a top seller.

Volkan is all healed up and will take on Shogun Rua on May 12 in Chile.
