When you travel to Phuket you are going to need to get around. It’s not like it is in the USA where you can press a button and an Uber shows up 2 minutes later. With all of the sites to see in Phuket, you are going to need a mode of transportation. We have a few popular ideas for you.
For short distances tuk tuks are fine, but their small size makes them uncomfortable for anything longer than about 30 minutes. Tuk tuks are basically motorized rickshaws. The are small and cramped but great for short distances; Kind of like Spirit Airlines.
Air-conditioned car taxis can be hired at all the main resort areas and in Phuket Town, with rates similar to the tuk tuks. Expect to bargain your fare in advance. Many of these are being converted into metered taxis in an island-wide drive to improve the transport system.
Local Open Air Buses
You can grab a bus anywhere and there are no set stops. It’s up to you where and when you want a bus to stop. Basically there is a bus route and you ride it until you feel like getting off.
The best way to get around Phuket if you are riding solo and can rent a scooter or motorbike. Obviously if you are traveling with kids this isn’t an option because of how unsafe it is putting a child on the back. But, if you’re alone, this is the way to go.
