With the help of Google Translate, we were able to transcribe Antonio Rogerio Nogueira’s statement about his failed drug test. He posted to his Instagram and gave his thoughts as to where his head is at in this new ordeal. Of course, it is in Portuguese, so the translation is below.
“Students, fans, friends, family: to all who are always by my side, I am here speaking to you. Today I was surprised by the USADA – doping control organization – that found a diuretic substance in my exams. I am here to try to clarify because we do not have all the explanations yet. From now on we will investigate this situation in depth. I am confident in my innocence and will find out what happened and defend myself in the hour timely.
I’ve always played the rules. I’m a veteran fighter and I’ve been in the sport for a long time. I always want to set an example for the younger ones who mirror the career I built. I’d never get involved with something unlawful to improve my performance or gain any advantage.
I have never had to take a diuretic. Everyone around me (mainly to my coaches) knows that I have never have difficulty losing weight; which is the function of a diuretic.
When the UFC marks my fight, I begin dieting and training as to not suffer at the end of camp. It is very difficult to go through this. I’ve always been honest with my work which I dedicate myself to with much love.
Unfortunately, my fight was cancelled an I am very sad about it all. I hope to quickly clarify this misunderstanding and get back to giving spectacular fights to all of you.
Thank you all for your support and respect for me.”
