Wilson Reis, Eric Shelton, Marcelo Golm, and fan favorite, Elias Theodorou, all got cut by the UFC this weekend. Some of the cuts make more sense than others, but the firing of Elias Theodorou makes the least sense. In other words, the UFC canned Elias because they just didn’t particularly like him.
Thodorou was a fan favorite because he wasn’t a smack talker and always kept things light for the fans. He was one of the UFC fighters who actually interacted with fans online. The fact that he was the first ‘Ring Boy’ speaks volumes about how he doesn’t care and just wants to have fun.
The news was reported by ESPN:
The UFC has surprisingly released former ranked middleweight contender Elias Theodorou, sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday night.
Theodorou’s release was first reported by Brazilian website Combate.
Before his release he lost a pretty lousy fight against Derek Brunson. This could be why he was let go after his first loss after a 3-fight winning streak. They may just not like his style. In the ring, of course.
As for the other 3 that were cut, they were all justified releases. It’s the fight game and unfortunately, if you lose, you’re gone.
