After a lot of back and forth talking, it’s finally happening. Nicco Montano will defend her UFC flyweight championship against Valentina Shevchenko. The two will square off in September on the UFC 228 PPV.
While the card is setting up nicely, it’s still without a main event. This matchup between Montano and Shevchenko is a big one, but not big enough to carry a PPV. At the moment, this is a co-main event to a fight that will be named in the future.
Thomas Gerbasi confirmed the news on UFC.com.
“After a stirring run on The Ultimate Fighter that culminated in her being crowned the first women’s flyweight champion in UFC history, Nicco Montano will defend her crown for the first time on September 8, as she battles the No. 1 contender Valentina Shevchenko in a UFC 228 bout at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.”
A headline of Cris Cyborg vs Amanda Nunes has been rumored to be the main event, but nothing is even close to being set in stone.
